Welcome to the Biomedical Graduate Student Association (BGSA) website!

The Biomedical Graduate Student Association (BGSA) is the student government representing all graduate students within the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine. We serve as a platform for communication between students, faculty, and administration, and sponsor monthly academic and social events.

On this website you will find information about our upcoming events, as well as a multitude of resources about the city of Pittsburgh, our University, funding opportunities, and more!

Stay up to date with BGSA happenings by checking out our meeting minutes and quarterly newsletter, which are posted regularly to this site. You can also find information about our events by following our Outlook Group (email slh131@pitt.edu to join). I also encourage anyone interested in having a say in what events we organize by attending our monthly meetings.

We are always seeking new members to provide fresh ideas for professional development and social activities. Becoming an active member of BGSA is also a great way to gain leadership and extracurricular skills outside of research. The “soft skills” you learn in graduate student are just as important as the “hard skills of science” you learn in the lab. Participation in planning and attending our various events will help prepare you for your next career steps, whether that be academia, industry, or government.

I would like to see the BGSA function more as a means to increase graduate student well-being, so if you have any ideas or comments for ways that we can help improve how things are run, please let us know. And as always, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding our organization.

I hope to see you at one of our events soon!
